Meta Platforms unveiled its Paid Verification Service in the United States on Friday, which enables users of Facebook and Instagram to purchase verification, similar to Elon Musk-owned Twitter.
Meta Verified, the new offering from the firm, will grant users a blue badge after verifying their accounts with a government ID, costing $11.99 monthly on the web or $14.99 per month on Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android, according to a statement released by Meta.
This paid verification service, which Meta had tested in February, follows the lead of Snapchat, owned by Snap Inc., and messaging app Telegram. It represents the most recent effort by social media businesses to diversify their income streams away from advertising.
After Musk’s $44 billion buyout last year, Twitter introduced its Blue subscription service, allowing individuals to purchase the blue checkmark previously reserved for verified accounts of politicians, journalists, and other public figures.
The launch of Twitter Blue in November increased in individuals posing as famous personalities and brands on the platform, prompting the company to discontinue the service and reintroduce it with different colored checks for individuals, companies, and governments.
How To Get Meta Paid Verification Service
To get the Paid Verification Service of Facebook and Instagram, users must subscribe to the Meta Verified service. This requires them to verify their accounts using a government ID and pay a monthly fee of $11.99 on the web or $14.99 on Apple’s iOS and Google-owned Android. Once verified, users will receive a blue badge on their profile.
