Twitter has proclaimed its plan to eradicate its platform’s long-existing legacy blue checkmarks come April 1st, 2023. Removing these verifications has been a subject of speculation for several months.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, divulged last December that the blue checkmarks would be abolished in “a few months” since the former system of awarding the checkmarks was “unjust and irrational.”
Before Musk acquired Twitter, the blue checkmarks were used to verify the genuineness and significance of individuals and entities on the platform. Verified checkmarks were given freely. Users can acquire a blue checkmark by subscribing to Twitter’s model, known as Twitter Blue, which costs $8 monthly.
For users of iOS and Android, the expense rises to $11 monthly because of the app store fees. Few checkmark colors & badges are available for purchase to indicate if an account belongs to a business or government.
Twitter states that acquiring legacy Blue Checkmarks grants users access to exclusive features, including fewer advertisements on their timeline, preferred ranking in conversations, bookmark folders, and the capability to construct lengthy tweets, edit tweets, and undo tweets.
Twitter Legacy blue checkmark holders are met with a pop-up notification that states, “This is a legacy verified account, and it may or may not be notable” when they click on their checkmark.
The proclamation of removing these checkmarks came shortly after Twitter informed the availability of its Twitter Blue subscription on a global scale.
About Twitter Legacy Blue Checkmarks
Twitter Blue was a premium subscription service offered by Twitter that provides users with enhanced features and tools to make their Twitter experience more personalized and enjoyable.
With a monthly fee, Twitter Blue offers benefits such as the ability to undo tweets, access to a dedicated customer support team, customizable app icons, and various color themes. Additionally, Twitter Blue subscribers can organize their bookmarks into folders and gain access to exclusive content and features.
While some may argue that the added benefits of Twitter Blue are not worth the cost, the features may be valuable and worth the investment for others who rely heavily on the platform.
