Google has started rolling out the May 2025 security patch for the Android 15 update, targeting a wide range of Pixel devices, including the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, 8, 8 Pro, 8a, 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9 Pro Fold, and 9a. This Android 15 update arrives ahead of the anticipated release of Android 16, bringing crucial security fixes and stability improvements.
This month’s security update addresses three primary vulnerabilities that affect all supported Pixel devices. Additionally, the Android security bulletin outlines 28 security issues resolved in the patch dated May 1, 2025, and 22 issues addressed in the patch dated May 5, 2025. Among these, the vulnerability labeled CVE-2025-27363 is noted as being “under limited, targeted exploitation,” indicating that it has potentially been exploited in specific circumstances.
For Pixel devices specifically, Google has included three additional security fixes aimed at enhancing device security further. These fixes address issues that are exclusive to Pixel hardware and software. Additionally, three new carrier-specific builds have been introduced for the Pixel 9 series in May, suggesting targeted improvements or optimizations for specific networks.
Users are advised to update their Pixel devices promptly to ensure the latest security protections are in place. To download the May 2025 security patch, navigate to Settings > System > System update and follow the prompts to install the latest software version.
