According to the British newspaper ‘The Guardian’, Meta announced new measures after criticizing safety laws in several countries and immediately banned live streaming by people under the age of 16 on Instagram.
At the same time, Meta has extended the account privacy settings of minors to Facebook and Messenger. Now such children will also need parental consent and permission to remove blurring from inappropriate and dangerous videos and images received on Instagram and Messenger.
Meta has introduced several security features and settings to protect minors over the past few years and is continuously introducing features for the safety and mental health of children and adolescents under the age of 16.
Now, 16-year-olds will need parental permission to livestream on their Instagram, and parents will be able to permit their children through the ‘teen accounts system’.
Most underage users around the world use applications like TikTok and Instagram, and such people also seem to be looking for inappropriate and dangerous content on such platforms, on which companies are now starting to introduce strict features.
Other platforms, including Meta, such as TikTok, have also been introducing safety and security tools for underage users.
