According to a recent report from The Wall Street Journal, Netflix is planning to increase its subscription fee once again. This decision comes after an ongoing actors’ strike and will initially roll out in Canada and the United States before covering other regions.
While the precise price changes and the exact timing of the changes remain undefined, this change marks another adjustment in Netflix’s pricing plan.
The last time Netflix raised its subscription rates was in January 2022. During that adjustment, the price of its 4K tier increased from $19 to $21 per month, while the Standard plan saw an increase from $15 to $16.50 monthly. The basic plan, however, remained at $10 monhtly.
In June 2023, company made more changes to its subscription offerings, eliminating the Basic plan overall and introducing a Standard plan with ads priced at $5.99 monthly & the regular Standard plan at $16.49 monthly.
This change allowed Netflix to expand its offerings to cater to a wider range of viewers. Moreover, the streaming giant launched an ad-supported tier in Canada in November 2022.
In related news from streaming platforms, Disney+ recently announced its intention to follow in Netflix’s footsteps by cracking down on password sharing, with implementation set to start on November 1st.
This move imitates a broader trend within the industry as streaming services pursue to optimize income streams and maintain profitability in a progressively modest market.
