WhatsApp has introduced new artificial intelligence (AI) tools to help businesses enhance their use of the app for selling products and services.
These AI tools, available on the Meta-owned messaging and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) app, allow businesses to automate responses to common customer inquiries, create advertisements for Meta platforms like Instagram and Facebook, and follow up with customers about abandoned carts or potential purchases, according to a blog post from WhatsApp on Thursday (June 6).
“We believe AI tools can help businesses provide the assistance customers seek and discover new products and services,” Whats-App stated in the post.
Additionally, WhatsApp is rolling out Meta Verified for the WhatsApp Business app in Brazil, Colombia, India, and Indonesia. Businesses that register their information with Meta will receive a Meta Verified badge, protection against impersonation, enhanced support from Meta, and the ability to use Whats-App across multiple devices for their employees.
“We look forward to expanding this important service to more businesses and countries soon,” Whats-App said.
WhatsApp also announced a new feature that allows consumers to call larger businesses with a single tap, facilitating the transition from text to voice calls for more complex inquiries. This feature is currently being tested and will be expanded to more businesses in the coming months.
Meta is integrating AI across its platforms and has plans to continue this trend. Recently, the company launched a free Meta AI assistant that can be used on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.
“We’re developing a variety of AI services, from our AI assistant to augmented reality apps and glasses, and APIs to help creators engage with their communities and for fans to interact with, as well as business APIs that we believe will eventually be utilized by every business on our platform,” said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg during the company’s quarterly earnings call on April 24.
