Squid Game creator, writer, and director Hwang Dong-hyuk, along with stars Lee Jung-jae and Wi Ha-Joon, will preview the highly anticipated Squid Game Season 2 of the smash-hit Korean thriller series at this year’s Lucca Comics & Games. Squid Game Season 2 is set to return in December 2024.
This event, Europe’s premier comics and gaming convention, takes place in the medieval city of Lucca in central Italy from October 30 to November 3. The second season is set to premiere later this year.
Netflix remains tight-lipped about the event in Lucca on October 31. However, considering that Squid Game is the most popular series ever on the platform, it is expected to draw significant interest.
Squid Game Season 1 of Squid Game captivated audiences worldwide with its intense and thought-provoking storyline. The series follows 456 cash-strapped contestants who compete in deadly children’s games for a chance to win a life-changing sum of money.
Its unique blend of suspense, social commentary, and emotional depth resonated with viewers, making it a global phenomenon and sparking widespread discussion about its themes and characters.
On Wednesday, Lucca announced additional highlights for this year’s convention. These include special celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the fantasy role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, the 40th anniversary of the pioneering computer game Tetris, and the 25th anniversary of the iconic Japanese manga One Piece (recently adapted by Netflix as a live-action series).
The festival also unveiled this year’s poster, designed by Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano, titled “The Butterfly Effect.” This artwork is reportedly inspired by Giacomo Puccini’s opera Madame Butterfly. Amano, a renowned contemporary artist, painter, and sculptor, is perhaps best known for his designs for the Final Fantasy video game series.
