Periscope cameras generally offer greater zoom capabilities compared to traditional telephoto lenses. Xiaomi has typically reserved these advanced cameras for its high-end Ultra models, but this year, they might be included in the more affordable Xiaomi 15 Pro.
This information comes from a well-known Chinese tipster, “Digital Chat Station,” who claims that the Xiaomi 15 Pro will feature a periscope zoom camera for the first time.
The Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro are anticipated to launch in China around October. These models will be the first to feature Qualcomm’s new flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip, as Xiaomi holds an exclusivity license for its initial release.
In terms of design, the Xiaomi 15 Pro is expected to sport a rectangular camera module with rounded corners, located at the top left corner of the back, similar to the Xiaomi 14 Pro. However, a notable change will be the relocation of the LED flash outside the camera island, likely to accommodate the new periscope lens.
According to the tipster, all three cameras on the Xiaomi 15 Pro will have a resolution of 50MP. Interestingly, the device will not use the Samsung ISOCELL JN1 sensor, which was used in the ultrawide and telephoto cameras of the Xiaomi 14 Pro.
There have been previous rumors that the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro might come with ultrasonic fingerprint sensors. However, Digital Chat Station has indicated that a final decision on this feature has not yet been made.
Currently, the Vivo X100 Ultra is the only model in the X100 series with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Xiaomi may follow a similar strategy by including this advanced sensor exclusively in the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.
