We spend a lot of our time on the internet. Unfortunately, only some people are as benevolent as those who build sites to show random cat pictures. You no longer know whether your information is safe, but Google wants to change that with Google One by making the VPN standard.
This VPN was initially only available with the premium version of the plan. In addition, another feature has been added that should help you in this digital age.
The Google One VPN hides your activities
If you are now thinking: “What is a VPN then?” here is a brief explanation. A Virtual Private Network (VPN) like Google One masks your online presence. Every device you use has an IP address, which hackers and malicious sites or apps can use.
In this way, they can, for example, track your internet activity or even find out your location where you are. Google itself also explains here how its specific VPN works.
Pretty handy, especially if you often use public networks such as those in shops or restaurants. So now the feature is available on every paid version of Google One instead of just the most expensive. For 2 euros per month, you get 100GB of cloud storage and a Virtual Private Network. You can also share this with five other users.
Even more security thanks to this subscription
In addition to this Virtual Private Network, Google One now offers a new feature. It sometimes happens that a large company is hacked and that the data of a group of people end up on the digital streets of the dark web. It sometimes has nasty consequences, especially if your citizen service number has been stolen.
Google One’s new Dark Web Report feature lets you securely scan the dark web for personal information. You fill in the data, and Google will let you know if it has found something. They will then help you with advice on how to protect this information or which authorities you can inform.
The Google One Virtual Private Network and Dark Web Report is rolling out now, intending to make it available to anyone with a subscription in the coming weeks.
