Dubai tests delivery robots to become the first city in the world to have robots delivering food to people’s doors. The delivery robots, named ‘Talabots,’ are currently being tested by Talabat, a food delivery service, and the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) in collaboration with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The Talabots will initially be tested in the gated community of Cedre Villas, located in the Dubai Silicon Oasis. The testing will involve three delivery robots traveling around the community delivering food to residents within a 3-kilometer radius of the Cedre Shopping Centre. The delivery process will take a total of 15 minutes to complete.
Dubai Tests Delivery Robots
Cedre Villas was chosen as the testing location due to its gated community nature, making it the perfect place to start testing the Talabots. The Talabots may be rolled out to other areas in Dubai and beyond if the testing is successful.
The Talabots will use the latest artificial intelligence (AI) technology and mapping software to navigate the community, avoiding obstacles and ensuring safe delivery. A team of engineers will monitor the robots to ensure that the Talabots operate correctly and safely.
Launching these delivery robots will further advance Dubai’s technological advancements, putting the city at the forefront of innovation. However, the use of these robots will also result in job losses. With the increasing use of automation, many jobs that humans previously did will now be done by machines, which could lead to a shift in the job market.
In addition to the Talabots, Dubai is expected to get flying taxis by 2026. The station designs for these taxis were recently approved at the World Government Summit 2023. With these technological advancements, Dubai is set to become one of the most progressive cities in the world.
The launch of the Talabots is set to revolutionize the food delivery industry, making it faster and more efficient. While job losses may be a concern, introducing these robots will create new opportunities for engineers and AI specialists, demonstrating that technological advancements can lead to new jobs and industries.
