Reality TV personality Georgia Harrison likened the release of a revenge porn video involving herself and Stephen Bear to a “house fire” due to its rapid dissemination. Bear, a former Celebrity Big Brother winner, was sentenced to jail in March 2023 by the Chelmsford Crown Court for sharing the video on OnlyFans without Harrison’s consent.
Addressing members of the Women and Equalities Committee, Georgia Harrison expressed, “When something like this is happening, it really is like a house fire, and the quicker you can put it out, the quicker you can stop it.” She described the video’s proliferation as reaching an inexplicable viral level across multiple pornographic websites and through circulation on WhatsApp.
Georgia Harrison, 29, revealed her horror at the violation, particularly by the platforms hosting unconsented videos. She lamented the lack of immediate response from platforms when reporting such violations, often receiving automated replies promising a response in four to six days.
Bear, residing in Loughton, Essex, was convicted of voyeurism and two charges of sharing private sexual material with the intent to cause distress. He was ordered to repay the £22,305 earned from distributing the video.
During her testimony, Georgia Harrison highlighted the difficulty in contacting major social media companies to report non-consensual content, emphasizing the urgent need for the removal of such content the same day if the individuals involved did not consent to its publication.
Reflecting on the impact of the ordeal, Georgia Harrison expressed fears about her future, including starting a family, due to the lasting stigma associated with the video. “It changed a lot for me, and it definitely gives me a lot of fear for one day, If I do have a family, which is something that was always my intention, are my children going to be able to stumble across this footage?” She criticized the government’s insufficient protection against such issues.
