Apple will soon introduce a new software version for your iPhone: iOS 16.4. What improvements and functionalities are coming to your smartphone? OMT editor Jeroen Kraak puts it all together for you.
Before Apple releases a software update, the American company lets developers and testers do their thing. Do it through beta versions. About iOS 16.4, the third version is out, and you, as a consumer, can expect the following:-
iPhone Updated iOS 16.4
Although iOS 16.4 is not a major update, we can expect the necessary additions and improvements. For example, references to Apple Music Classical can be found based on the first beta version, and Apple Books will receive the necessary changes.
1: Is Apple Music Classical Finally Coming?
There have been rumors for a long time that Apple wants to create a dedicated streaming service for classical music. In the new iOS 16.4 beta, we find new clues for it.
There is a special notice about Apple Classical within the software version for your iPhone. “To listen to Apple Music Classical, you need to install Apple Music,” it read. So it will be soon that the app will be available.
2: AppleCare renewed on your iPhone
AppleCare, also known as Coverage in the Netherlands, will receive the necessary changes in iOS 16.4. Not only do you see what the warranty of your iPhone is like there, but you also get to see linked products, such as the Apple Watch and AirPods, including an icon. Handy, because that way you can see exactly how the warranty of all your products is.
Want to find more information about your current coverage? Go to Settings > General > About > Coverage on your iPhone to get all the information.

Sometimes, the little things are what count. Apple has changed the animation for turning a page in Apple Books that had previously been taken out. This feature ought to have been obvious to many users.
4: 5G Standalone
Although iOS 16.4 is being rolled out internationally, not all functionalities are usable for everyone. For example, Dutch consumers with an iPhone have no use for the change in 5G Standalone support. It is only for the United States and Brazil. It is a special network on which 3GB per second is achieved on the iPhone.
5: Prompts for the Rapid Security update
Users are now prompted if a Rapid Security update has caused app or operating system problems. If you have installed such an update, removing it is possible. The prompts help you if the system detects an app crashing.
6: Car Key support is changing
In the new iOS 16.4 beta, Car Key is supported for fewer phones. Apple wants to say goodbye to cars that do not have Ultra Broadband or only NFC technology. The service can only be used with the iPhone 11 or later models and the Apple Watch Series 6.
7: Changes in the Podcasts App
The layout of the Podcasts app looks slightly different. Channels you’re subscribed to appear at the top, followed by free shows you listen to regularly. Users can press it to see different episodes.
Ok, from now on, you will see how many unlistened episodes there are and how recent the last episode is. In addition, you can also see whether there is early access. It also comes Up Next and Browses to Apple CarPlay.
8: Push Notifications in iOS 16.4
Developers can now send push notifications to web apps, a feature we saw in Safari 16.1 for macOS Ventura. It only happens with users who permit this. In iOS 16, this is not only the case for Safari; other browsers, such as Chrome, can also do this.
9: No major but nice updates in iOS 16.4
The innovations in iOS 16.4 are small, but we should not look a gift horse in the mouth. We are especially curious about Apple Classical on the iPhone.
