The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to shut down duplicate mobile devices.
PTA has started an operation against mobile phones operating with clone and duplicate IMEI. In the first phase, verification messages will be sent to all users. The sets of those who do not get verified will be blocked.
Users will receive messages to check the clone and duplicate IMEI of mobile phones; it is mandatory to provide IMEI details within 7 days of receiving the verification message. After verification, IMEI will be linked to the relevant SIM numbers; mobile phones whose IMEIs have not been verified will be blocked.
FIA officials have appealed to the public that those whose duplicate mobile devices are blocked should contact the phone seller or FIA and always buy legal, approved, and taxed mobile phones from FBR.
The public has been advised not to buy mobile phones without warranty and suspiciously low prices. Be sure to verify the IMEI when buying a mobile phone.
