A movie about Taylor Swift‘s “Eras Tour” performance is expected to generate a lot of revenue when it comes out. It’s estimated that the movie will earn around $100 million in the United States. However, it could generate even more revenue by the end of this weekend.
This movie shows Taylor Swift’s famed three-hour concert in stadiums. It’s predictable to make about $125 million from around 3,850 theaters in North America. And it’s expected to make an extra $30 million to $50 million from 4,150 cinema houses in more than 90 countries worldwide. It could make anywhere between $150 million and $175 million.
This is a big deal because it’s not just a concert film; it’s also a non-franchise movie. Not many movies can make this much revenue in today’s film industry. It would be the only movie in October, the first one since July, and the sixth one this year to make over $100 million on its opening weekend.
Most movies open on Thursday afternoons, but “Eras Tour” won’t officially start until Friday, the 13th. That’s Taylor Swift’s lucky number. But the tickets for this movie are extra expensive than normal movie tickets, with adult tickets costing $19.89 and kids & seniors paying $13.13.
This could mean fewer people go to see it, but it doesn’t seem to stop Taylor Swift’s followers, called “Swifties.” By last Thursday, “Eras Tour” had sold over $100 million in tickets; earlier, it even started showing in theaters across the world. This makes it the highest-earning concert movie ever, beating the previous record held by “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never,” which made $99 million in 2011.
Probably, by the time “Eras Tour” finishes showing in theaters, it will be one of the top 10 highest-earning movies of the year. It might even earn more revenue than big movies like “Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning Part One” and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” both of which are likely to make around $174 million, as well as “Fast X,” which could earn $145 million.
Taylor Swift Film “Eras Tour” Trailer
Excitingly, “Eras Tour” won’t have as several show times as other movies. After its opening weekend, it will only play in cinemas on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The reason is that Taylor Swift and her team want the movie to be watched by a full audience. They want to evade half-empty cinemas on a Monday evening.
No matter how much money it makes, “Eras Tour” is a big deal for movie theaters. It comes at a time when many big movies, like “Dune: Part Two,” had to be overdue because of an actors’ strike. “These ticket sales are as good as a big movie. No one has ever seen this kind of success from a concert movie earlier,” says Cory Jacobson, who keeps Phoenix Theatres. “It’s taking in a lot of revenue for movie theaters, which we need right now.”
